PLEASE REMEMBER TO CANCEL YOUR FLIGHT IN SCHEDULE MASTER IF YOU CAN'T FLY. THE BOARD CAN CHARGE ONE HOUR PER DAY AT THE SCHEDULED AIRCRAFT RATE ACCORDING TO T-CRAFT CLUB POLICY #15.

The EPA is cracking down on pilots dumping "sumped" fuel on the ramp. It is a very steep fine if you are caught. We have purchased devices to filter the fuel back into the aircraft. It is a little cumbersome the first time you use it, but it is necessary. Remove the top (strainer) section of the fuel tester, drain fuel, and place fuel strainer on top of tester. Open top of strainer and carefully replace fuel back into fuel tank.

It is always a good idea to check with FSS before every flight. There could be new TFR's posted in the area you are about to fly, or numerous other items you wouldn't otherwise be aware of.

You can order Apparel from Bulldog Shirt Shop in Nampa on 12th Ave. They have our logo and will put it on any item in there catalog. Click on their name for the map and phone number.

Please keep your contact information (phone numbers, email addresses, postal address) updated in Schedule Master. To check or update your contact information, login to Schedule Master, click the "User" tab at the top, then click the link that says "Click here to edit your user info" which appears just above the list of users.

All members need to remember to UNplug when going flying. Be extra careful when placing ducting into cowling as the ducting is very thin and tears quite easily. Please do not turn knobs to whatever you feel like. They all have been set where need be.

Aircraft Door Locks work best if you Press In on latch while using key (even 686 can be locked/unlocked).

375: Annual completed last wk Engine has 445 hours SMOH.  Magneto required 500 hour inspection done. Replaced pitted contacts in both mags. Induction air filter replaced.  Both lower nose strut mounts cracked.  Welded repaired. Resealed nose strut/replaced O-ring. Replaced left fuel cap seal. Replaced both leaking brake calipers. Replaced outboard brake linings both left and right. Replaced instrument light rheostat and corrected wiring. Installed new ignition switch per AD.

686: SL 30 installed.  Instructions copied and placed in aircraft.  Members can use these to make copies on hanger copier but remember to leave instructions in aircraft.

64L: Nothing to report.

91X: Door stop replaced. Annual next week. Fire extinguisher next to be replaced.

0YD: Nothing to report.

93S: Nothing to report.

USE TACH TIME  FOR SQUAWKS PLEASE. This helps the maintenance team tremendously!
The sign-out sheets have not changed. Continue to use HOBBS Time for sign out sheets. This will continue to be the way you are billed.

Please check Schedule Master and Squawk Sheets for new Squawks on the aircraft you are about to fly. Also, please call the next pilot scheduled to fly if you Squawk the aircraft. AND DON'T FORGET TO LIST YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER!

KEEP UP YOUR BASIC NAVIGATION SKILLS
With today's technology it won't be long before everyone has, or has access to a handheld GPS to use for navigation.  This is great and a GPS sure make navigating easy.  Unfortunately if something happens to the GPS would you still be able to navigate to your destination as easily.  The answer should be yes. As private pilots we learned three different methods of navigation:

1. Pilotage, where we followed along on the sectional picking out check points, different terrain features, following roads and anything else we can recognize on the ground.

2. Dead Reckoning, using your E6B handheld, no batteries required, trusty flight computer to figure out your course given the wind aloft.  Figuring your fuel consumption, your ETA and so forth.

3. Radio Navigation, using radio navigational aides like the VOR.   Even with a GPS you should still follow your course on your sectional and know exactly where you are at all times.  If the GPS goes out you can go into plan B at least knowing where you are starting from.  You should still do your wind correction for your winds aloft or at least have the information available and know where the nearest VOR is and its frequencies.  You might even want that VOR dialed in and have an idea what radial you are on.

A pilot should always plan ahead and be familiar with all available information.  The last thing you want to happen is your GPS goes out and your brand new sectional is in your flight bag, with your E6B and your plotter, safely packed in the storage compartment.

In May the ground class will be a VOR refresher class for those who maybe haven't used one in a while or would just like to brush up on their skills.

Safe flying!
